A BEAUTIFULLY PATINATED OLD OWL MASK FROM THE BWA TRIBE OF BURKINA FASO ( No 0062 )

£295.00
This is big, nicely patinated owl mask from the Bwa people of Burkina Faso in West Africa.  Features a very impactful shape, representing the owls wings at the top, and the face at the bottom.  Owls are revered for their rare ability to fly at night.  Has a really nice old looking patina, with wear throughout.  Has been indigenously repaired with attractive fibre stitching.  The pigment decoration has worn away.   Would have had distinctive black and white pigment in the geometric engraved patterns, which is more visible at the rear..  In solid condition.  Length of mask approx 80cm.  This mask could been tribally used, but we are not one hundred percent sure.  Stand not included.
