A XXL MASK FROM THE MOSSI PEOPLE OF BURKINA FASO W.AFRICA ( No 249)

£485.00

This is a large animal mask from the Mossi people of Burkina Faso, West Africa.  Probably depicts a crocodile with artistic licence.  Two small birds flank the face.  It is covered in black and white pigment patterns throughout.  Sculptural and unusual design with six cone eyes and an open snout.  The patina shows some encrustation but it is not old.  In good condition, but the point of one of the conical eyes is shortened.  Length of mask approx 85cm.   This mask is decorative.   Does not stand up but can hang on the wall.
